A short bibliography on interactive documentaries

A colleague in film studies asked for my assistance in pulling together a short bibliography on i-docs (interactive documentaries). This topic and the broader issue of interactive non-fiction narratives as web-based digital storytelling is a long-term interest of mine.

Scholarship on i-docs:

  • Aston, Judith, et al. i-Docs : the Evolving Practices of Interactive Documentary . Wallflower Press, 2017.

  • Aston, Judith, and Gaudenzi, Sandra. “Interactive Documentary: Setting the Field.” Studies in Documentary Film, vol. 6, no. 2, Routledge, pp. 125–39. (This entire issue of Studies in Documentary Film is a special edition on i-docs.)

  • Miles, Adrian, et al. “The Material turn and interactive documentary: a panel.” (2017).
  • Nash, Kate, et al. New Documentary Ecologies : Emerging Platforms, Practices and Discourses . Palgrave Macmillan.

  • O’Flynn, Siobhan. “Documentary’s metamorphic form: Webdoc, interactive, transmedia, participatory and beyond.” Studies in documentary film 6.2 (2012): 141-157.
